OCA Advancement Foundation

"It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them.  They went out and happened to things."
- Leonardo da Vinci

Early in 2016, The Ohio Contractors Association (OCA) reached out to a significant sampling of members -nearly 20% of contractor members - to explore their most pressing business needs.  Perhaps you recognize your voice or sentiments in excerpts of the feedback received, in which OCA members resoundingly confirmed the same critical industry-wide need:

"We urgently need help getting more young people into the industry at the ground level - especially in the trades. We all have critical issues with a dwindling workforce."

"OCA needs to lead the way to attract the best talent to the heavy/highway industry - an industry that directly improves public good and safety."

"I see a dire need for exposure to the youth of today to career opportunities in the industry."
If this theme resonates with you, you are in exceptional company.
  • 98% of participants articulated that creating awareness about jobs and career opportunities in our industry in order to bolster the workforce of today and build the workforce of tomorrow is an urgent need.
  • 84% consider the issue to be a top priority.
  • In addition, 90% of respondents also identified a need for support in industry education in the form of scholarships to help train tomorrow's industry leaders.

The Right Tool:
The Ohio Contractors Association Advancement Foundation - OCAAF (Advancement Foundation) - was created in 2013 by members of the Ohio Contractors Association Board of Directors with an eye to the future.  The intent is that the Advancement Foundation will strengthen the industry in Ohio by:

  • building awareness about jobs and career opportunities in the industry.
  • providing development and advancement opportunities through education and training for today's and the future worker.
  • maximizing our ability to offer scholarships for individuals pursuing careers in the highway/heavy industry.
The Message is Clear:
There exists a critical need to create awareness about careers in our industry among future workers.  OCA has been widely regarded as, "a powerful and unifying voice of the industry" for nearly a century. We do it. We do it well. But we can't do it alone.

With the establishment of the Ohio Contractors Association Advancement Foundation, and with your leadership support, this is our time to, as da Vinci suggested, " ... happen to things." Together, let's bridge the gap between the industry and the existing and emerging workforce, to power the heavy/highway industry in Ohio into the future.
The Opportunity:
With OCA poised to kick off its second century of providing support. unity and leadership to the heavy, highway and utility industry in Ohio, the Advancement Foundation is launching an Endowment Campaign to fund initiatives and carry the industry into its next 100 years by nurturing the resources the industry needs to thrive.

The proposed goal of the Endowment Campaign was $1.5 million and that goal has been achieved!

  • The OCA Board of Directors unanimously approving the first gift to the Advancement Foundation.
  • The OCA Board of Directors also unanimously pledging to individually support the Advancement Foundation through personal/corporate gifts.
Now it's your turn.
You've made your mark by helping to shape the industry we know today as heavy/highway.  Let us help you secure that mark for the next generation by building awareness of this robust industry that is ripe with opportunity for future workers.
