Contact Your State Legislators
A draft bill has been provided to the legislature from Governor DeWine and his Administration committing to addressing Ohio’s transportation infrastructure funding problem by recommending an 18-cent increase to the state motor fuel user fee in the two-year transportation budget proposal. The increase would take effect on July 1, 2019. In addition, the fee would be indexed to the Consumer Price Index annually. At its onset, an additional $1.2 billion would be available to state and local governments for transportation spending should the entire amount become effective immediately.
The proposal is now before the Ohio House of Representatives and action will shortly follow by the Ohio Senate. In seeking the legislature’s concurrence to pass a bill that asks the citizens of Ohio to pay more for services, including highway and bridge maintenance, there must be a clear demonstration of need and support from the legislator’s constituency. You are that constituency. This will not happen if you do not communicate that support to your legislators. We are, once again, making the request that you call or write to those you elect to make these decisions. Your communication with them is vital to win their vote.
Please take a moment and contact your legislators either by phone, email, or letter asking them to support the DeWine Administration’s transportation proposal. Even if you are not personally connected with them, give them a call. Contact from their constituents is what makes them move into action! Share that a long-term, sustainable revenue option is needed.

Or call 1-800-282-0253 to be connected directly to your Representative’s or Senator’s office. Remember, the most effective advocacy is one that is personal, so make sure to add your own perspective and experience. ODOT’S New Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor (WTS)
As most OCA members should now be aware, ODOT no longer accepts Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor (WTS) certification from OCA, ATSSA, and or the Ohio Laborers Training Center, as they have been doing for the past 15 years or so. ODOT has revised their WTS spec, which now requires that the WTS must have successfully completed testing administered exclusively by ODOT. Because the exam has not been made available to OCA, we have not been able to develop a study course to prepare candidates to take ODOT’s new WTS exam. In addition, ODOT requires no training course as a prerequisite for taking their new exam. OCA’s former course is an excellent product to train for work zone safety, however it is not best suited to prepare candidates to take ODOT’s new exam. Clickhere to view more.
2019 Northeast Ohio Real Estate and Construction Survey
Skoda Minotti is conducting its 12th annual survey of the Northeast Ohio real estate and construction industries. This survey is designed to provide professionals in Northeast Ohio’s real estate and construction industries with valuable insights about news and trends in each industry. This year's survey digs deeper into the most pressing topics of 2019 such as talent acquisition, opportunity zones and the effect of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Each survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
