National Work Zone Awareness Week
Following is a link to the National Work Zone Safety Awareness Website. OCA and its partners will be participating in this annual campaign by utilizing social media to distribute our message about the importance of work zone safety awareness. This year’s national theme is: “Safe Work Zones for All – Protect Workers – Protect Road Users – We Can Do It”
You may want to check out the National Work Zone Safety Awareness Website, where you can get additional information about this year’s campaign, download posters, and order campaign merchandise for your employees. Click on the following link: http://www.nwzaw.org/#
One important way you can improve highway work zone safety is to put your phone away when driving. Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 2,841 lives in 2018 alone. Among those killed: 1,730 drivers, 605 passengers, 400 pedestrians and 77 bicyclists. OCA wants to save lives by preventing this dangerous behavior and is a leading proponent of Ohio’s proposed distracted driving law. We ask for your support as well. You can find out more about Ohio’s proposed Distracted Driving Law here.

I hope you are all well and coping with all of the coronavirus protocols that allow us to continue working as an essential business in Ohio. If we can be of assistance in any way, do not hesitate to contact us.
Let’s put an end to the tragedies and provide “Safe Work Zones for All.” If everyone pitches in, “We Can Do It!”
**Important Announcement** OPWC Funding Status
To our customers -
In our continued efforts to communicate with you during the COVID-19 pandemic, this message is being sent to all OPWC funding recipients of active infrastructure and Clean Ohio projects, infrastructure Round 34, and Small Government applicants. We are fielding inquiries regarding the status of OPWC funds and have been communicating through our website. Our website is the best way to stay current on our messaging, but we are sending this direct communication in a targeted attempt to help make our customers aware. Due to the lack of email address for smaller communities, we have included consultants who act as project managers. If you are a consultant and serve as a project manager, please share this communication to the best of your ability.
OPWC funding relies on a variety of legislative vehicles. Understandably, due to the pandemic, the timing of legislation is uncertain. Our leaders are aware. Our efforts today are to inform you what we know currently but, again, please check our website periodically for status updates.
URGENT ACTION ALERT
|
Tell the Trump Administration and Congress to include immediate funding for state departments of transportation (DOTs) in future COVID-19 relief legislation! Thousands of construction jobs may be on the line if they do not act soon.
Due to the unprecedented impact of the pandemic, state DOTs are beginning to delay projects until the next fiscal year and consider cancelling others, as transportation revenue projections show significant declines nationwide. Without immediate federal funding to state DOTs to help ensure these projects can move forward, the threat of significant layoffs grows exponentially.
Click the "Take Action" button below and simply submit the pre-written message as is to President Trump and your members of Congress or customize it with personal information on how this issue impacts you and your employer.

Currently, projections show a 50 percent vehicle traffic decline and, in certain states, toll road traffic down 67 percent. Specific impacts of these declines include individual state transportation revenue losses as high as 45 percent in the next 18 months. Already, state DOTs are delaying transportation projects that were previously set to move forward, including but not limited to:
• North Carolina DOT reduced proposed construction projects from 131 to 38 for the upcoming budget year, a $2 billion reduction;
• Ohio DOT delayed two major interstate construction projects for the upcoming fiscal year;
• Missouri DOT postponed 18 road and bridge projects, with as many as 299 additional projects, valued at $785 million.
The Trump Administration and Congress must provide state DOTs with additional funding to help backfill lost state transportation revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic to combat the threat of further project delays, cancellations and, ultimately, construction worker layoffs.
Taking action is easy. Simply click the below button to submit the pre-written message as is or customize it with personal information on how this issue impacts you and your company. If you would like to forward the alert to colleagues and friends, please wait for the instructions that will be included in the confirmation email after you take action.
