Ohio Department of Administrative Services Announces Changes to Enforcement of EDGE Program Rules
The Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS) recently announced that it will be enforcing the 10 year limitation on Encouraging Diversity, Growth and Equity (EDGE) program participation. DAS conducted a conference call with OCA and other organizations that have members who are EDGE certified companies, and informed us of the upcoming changes. OCA Participates in Lean Event for ODOT’s OJT Program
Chris Engle of the OCA Staff, along with Robin Kaufman (Kokosing Construction) and Jackie Jacob (The Great Lakes Construction Company), recently participated in a Kaizen/Lean Process Improvement event which examined ODOT’s On the Job Training (OJT) Program. Training and upgrading of minorities, women and disadvantaged persons toward journey person status is the primary objective of the ODOT’s voluntary OJT Program. ODOT has been struggling to provide accurate, meaningful data to FHWA regarding its contracts’ OJT participation, and there was concern that the program would need to revert to a mandated, trainees-per-project format that had previously been used. Kaizen is a Japanese term, meaning to break apart or change (kai) for the better (zen). Kaizen is a practice with a proven record of reducing waste, increasing efficiency, saving money, and increasing customer satisfaction. During this three day event, participants from ODOT, FHWA, OCA and other organizations examined the process in great detail and recommended changes that would result in more accurate information and make reporting more efficient for contractors. ODOT Announces DBE MSV Informational
On Tuesday, June 12, ODOT will be holding a “DBE Bootcamp Orientation” from 10:00 a.m. to noon at ODOT Central Office to provide information on the upcoming changes to procedures regarding DBE Material and Supplies Vendors (DBE MSVs).
