Culture of Care: AGC Launches New Series of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention PSAs

AGC of America recently launched a new effort to combat the high suicide rates and improve mental health among construction workers. As part of this effort, we are releasing a series of mental health PSA’s that show all sides of mental health issues in the industry, including those struggling firsthand with addiction and mental illness, those concerned for a co-worker that they believe may be grappling with these issues, and what strong leadership and supporting staff can do for helping our people feel comfortable enough to seek help when they need it.

We are hoping that through sharing these stories, our industry workers will better understand that there are others out there who may have similar struggles, that they are not alone, and it is okay to ask for support. AGC asks that you please utilize these videos and share all available resources so that in the event one of your member companies needs assistance, they know where to turn.

The task force has put together an open forum for productive ideas related to suicide prevention and mental health efforts. All other information, resources and videos are available online at agc.org/mental-health-suicide-prevention.

     ODOT to Discontinue Printing Plans

Beginning with the January 12, 2023 letting, the Office of Contract Sales will no longer print conformed sets of plans for the awarded contractor.

Plan sets for all projects will continue to be available to download from Digital Paper at http://contracts.dot.state.oh.us.

OCA Seeks Nominations for Individual Partnering Award

For the second year, we will be honoring an ODOT employee who has demonstrated the principles of Partnering on the projects they have administered over their career. ODOT will be nominating a contractor’s employee for an award as well. Last year’s ODOT winner was Jason Young, who was an Area Engineer in District 4 and is now District 12 Construction Engineer. The OCA winner was Dan Smith, an OCA Hall of Famer with John R. Jurgensen.

Please send your nominations to Chris Engle before January 17. Please include a brief summary of your reasons for the nomination.

ODOT Publishes List of Projects Potentially Eligible for Retroactive Price Adjustments

ODOT has published their list of projects that they believe are eligible for a retroactive price adjustment for fuel or steel. To see this list, click here. If you are a subcontractor and believe your items of work are eligible, but have not been contacted by your prime contractor, please reach out directly to them. If you have any questions about this list or your project’s eligibility, please contact Chris Engle.

Ohio EPA Recycling & Litter Prevention Grant Information   

Description: These webinars will discuss Ohio EPA’s 2023 Recycling and Litter Prevention Grant application process, funding opportunities, and eligible project activities. This competitive grant program provides opportunities for local governments, schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to establish and implement recycling and litter prevention programs, recycling market development for manufacturers, expansion of recycling equipment and processing facilities, and recycling infrastructure improvements. The 2023 grant application deadline is Feb. 3, 2023, at 3 p.m. (EST).
