Competent Person Excavation Class 3-14-18OSHA enforcement continues to get tougher and more expensive.  Company owners and/or managers may also face criminal charges if an employee is injured or killed in an unprotected trench.  Your highest priority should be to protect your employees, and while doing so you will also be protecting your company’s bottom line.  Don’t open a trench without a Competent Person on site and in charge!  The OCA has developed an excellent training course for trenching and excavation safety.  This full-day session is in-depth and intense. Students must pass a course exam.  The course includes student reference manual, testing, certification card, refreshments and lunch.3/14/2018Columbus CPEC3

Underground Utility Damage Prevention Training 3/20/18Ohio’s enforcement of excavation activities near underground utilities has been in place for two years and penalties are accumulating quickly. OCA has a strong presence on the Underground Technical Committee, and we are seeing more and more violations of Ohio’s Dig Laws by both owners and excavators.  At every meeting, the UTC is now assessing fines and/or corrective action plans for violators.  Further, The Department of Transportation has made this a national priority and is reviewing these reports annually.  Excavators must work in underground atmospheres becoming increasingly congested with facilities and structures.  Excavators can avoid problems and violations by first understanding Ohio’s “dig laws” and then applying them before a shovel even hits the ground.  There are two parts to this course.  First, we provide you with tools to understand current “dig laws” and minimize misconceptions happening in the field during excavation. Second, you will learn how to properly document your site; even utilizing bid items for proactive documentation. This not only saves your company downtime and unnecessary costs, but most importantly, keeps your worksites safe. We deliver this material in a half day course with real-life situational examples you can relate to.  You WILL leave this course armed with valuable information to help your company avoid damage to underground utilities during construction operations!3/20/2018Columbus UUDP3
