OCA Chapter of the Year Update

We are in the home stretch countdown to determine OCA’s Chapter of the Year award winner!

The Columbus Chapter is currently in first place and the winner will be announced at the OCA Winter Conference on Tuesday, Dec.6.

These standings can change quickly as end-of-the-year membership applications and PAC donations come in. The deadline for all final efforts to be included in the contest is Wednesday, Nov. 30. All membership applications and PAC contributions collected by the end of business on Nov. 30 will contribute towards Chapter of the Year.

Chapter of the year points are based on meeting attendance, increased membership and PAC contributions. Groups that complete a hands-on community service project that benefits their local community also receive bonus points equaling 10 percent of their total score. Below is a chart showing the current group standings and does not include community service points.

Please contact OCA Director of Chapter Development Melanie Kitchen at [email protected] or 614-488-0724 with any questions about the Chapter of the Year contest.

OCA appreciates the commitment of all volunteer leaders throughout the state who work to make the Chapters successful.

Winter Conference Keynote Speaker -
Chuck Underwood, Founder, The Generational Imperative, Inc.

Monday, December 5th - 2:00 - 3:30 pm

Three, and sometimes four, generations are active in the American workplace: Boomers; GenX; Millennials; and, in some cases the Silent Generation. Each generation brings unique core values, career attitudes, strengths and weaknesses to their work. It is imperative for employers, management, and employees to understand those differences.

TGI’s training programs in Generational Workforce Strategy help organizations to:

     - recruit the best employees from each generation;
     - onboard them smoothly, in those critical first few hours, days, weeks, and months;
     - train them appropriately;
     - manage and lead them effectively;
     - help all employees to maximize their fulfillment with their work and, with that, their productivity;
     - enhance inter-generational understanding and cooperativeness amongst all employees;
     - train current leaders in generational diversity and generational leadership;
     - prepare future leaders and, by doing so, help to ensure orderly succession of leadership;
     - … and much more.

Chuck says: “Here are the challenges: retaining Boomers and getting the best possible leadership from them. Retaining X’ers and preparing them for leadership. Recruiting, onboarding, and retaining Millennials, and helping them to embrace realistic expectations. Training in Generational Workforce Management is no longer optional. It’s now imperative. It’s all about productivity, turnover reduction, teamwork, culture, and bottom line.”
